Rivers Police Eliminate Notorious Cult Leader Behind Multiple Murders

The 42-year-old suspect, from Ogbologbolo Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area, was known for high-profile killings, including the deaths of two Shell staff, a spare parts dealer, and several others.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Commissioner of Police Mustapha Mohammed Bala confirmed that Nkem was killed during a police operation. The operation, based on intelligence, took place in Ahoada East Local Government Area as Nkem and his gang attempted another kidnapping.

“Nkem, a leader of the Greenlander Cult Group, was behind numerous heinous crimes across Ahoada East and West LGAs,” CP Bala revealed. Among his victims were Mr. Christmas Ede, Youth President of Okogbe Community, killed in 2021, and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Kiriki and Mrs. Abigail Victor in 2024. He also murdered two Shell employees after collecting ransom.”

Nkem was linked to attacks on law enforcement, including the killings of two Rapid Response Team officers in 2023 and the shooting of a senior officer during a rescue mission in 2022. He was also involved in kidnappings, armed robberies, and pipeline vandalism.

During the operation that ended his reign, Nkem’s gang members fled with injuries. Police recovered two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, and 22 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.

The Rivers Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and bringing criminals to justice. Efforts are ongoing to capture Nkem’s accomplices.
