Speaking in an interview on Kunle Afod’s YouTube channel, Taofeek recounted how a director she admired disrespected and mistreated her on set, despite prior agreements.

A Director Convinced Her to Return

After giving birth, Taofeek initially decided to take a break from acting to prioritize her family. However, a well-known director reached out to her, convincing her to take part in a project. He assured her that she would only be needed for one day, so she agreed and made arrangements to be on set.

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.

Unfulfilled Promises and Late-Night Call

On the first day, Taofeek was not given any scenes to shoot, leaving her idle despite their agreement. As the second day approached, she sensed her time was being wasted and asked someone to bring her child to the location so she could balance work and motherhood.

Then, at midnight, the director called her, insisting he needed her immediately. Despite the odd timing, she left her child at the hotel and rushed to the set, only to remain on standby until 3 a.m. without being given any scenes to shoot.

Feeling Disrespected and Unappreciated

At this point, Taofeek began to feel undervalued, especially as she noticed that the crew treated her differently because she was a nursing mother who had been away from the industry. Frustrated and hurt, she decided to leave the set.

In her words:

“When I had my child, I never intended to return to work immediately because I’m a family-oriented person. I wanted to take my time before going back to the movie industry. However, a director I respected called me and asked me to come and shoot for a day. We had already agreed on a price, but when I got to the set, I didn’t do anything on the first day. As the second day approached, I asked someone to bring my child. At 12 a.m., the director called me, saying he needed me, so I left my child at the hotel and went to the location.”

She continued:

“Many things happened there that made me feel disrespected. Up until 3 a.m., I hadn’t shot any scenes, and my child was still in the hotel. Just because I was a nursing mother and had been away from the industry for a while to focus on my family, they started treating me as if I had lost my dignity or was no longer a star. Feeling embarrassed, I decided to leave.”

No Support from the Production Team

The next day, her struggles continued when the hotel asked her to check out since her payment had expired. Since she had only planned for a two-day stay based on her prior agreement, this added to her frustration.

Surprisingly, neither the director nor any crew members reached out to check on her or even apologize.

“Despite everything that happened, neither the director nor any crew members called to check up on me.”

This incident sheds light on the challenges actresses, especially mothers, face in the industry, raising concerns about professionalism and respect in Nollywood.
