In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram late Tuesday, the 69-year-old actor commended Alade for her dedication to Afrobeats and her deep-rooted connection to African heritage.

“Yemi Alade, you are a queen. You may not have won the Grammy, but you clearly won my heart,” Agu declared. “If nobody will say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu Agu, will give you your flowers while you can still smell them.”

He praised the singer for proudly putting African culture on the world stage, particularly through her fashion choices at the event.

“You are putting African culture on the world map. Your outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you, I know my roots,’” he added.

Agu also highlighted Alade’s talent, discipline, and decency, calling her an inspiration for young women.

“Do we talk about how decent and natural you have been as an artiste or how beautiful you are as a woman? You carry yourself as a lady, a role model. Yemi, keep being the inspiration you are to many young girls.”

Ending on a lighthearted note, he referenced her hit song “Johnny”, playfully wishing her well in finding love.
