FG: Tinubu’s Economic Policies Unrelated to Recent Food Stampedes

Idris extended heartfelt condolences to the families of over 70 victims, including approximately 40 children, who lost their lives in the stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja.

In response to claims by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who linked the stampedes to systemic failures and widespread hardship, Idris dismissed the allegations as politicized and misleading.

“These unfortunate events have occurred in the past, even before this administration. Linking them to the President’s reforms is baseless and unhelpful,” he stated.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant, Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister stressed the need for organizers of charitable events to collaborate with authorities and comply with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure effective crowd control.

He also highlighted the role of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in enhancing safety during such distributions.

Idris urged politicians and stakeholders to avoid politicizing the tragedies, reiterating that President Tinubu’s economic reforms aim to reposition the economy for sustainable growth and improve the lives of all Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable, without causing undue hardship.

The minister concluded by calling on all Nigerians to prioritize safety and compliance during festive seasons and beyond.
