The banner sparked outrage after being shared on social media, with many viewing it as an attack on the Christian faith.

In response, Imam Jamiu explained to his congregation that the banner was intended for educational purposes, emphasizing the mosque’s mission to promote knowledge among Muslims. He stated, “When you come to Lekki Central Mosque, at least you should learn something… Islam treasures knowledge.”

The Imam noted that all displayed banners contain verses from the Quran and Hadith. After the banner gained attention online, he reported receiving calls from various authorities urging its removal, particularly due to the ongoing festive period.

He clarified that the banner was not meant to provoke, asserting, “There’s a difference between the propagation of Islam and provocation.” Jamiu highlighted that the sign had been in place for about two months and reinforced that the community is peace-loving and seeks to share their faith rather than instigate conflict.
