Nigerian Stars Compete for Grammy Glory at 67th Awards, Beyoncé to Steal the Show

Leading the Nigerian contingent is Tems, who has secured three nominations across major categories, including Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Album, and Best R&B Song. Burna Boy is also making waves as the first African artist to receive Grammy nominations for six consecutive years, with his track “Higher” from his album I Told Them nominated for Best African Music Performance.

Yemi Alade, Asake, and Rema are making their first appearances at the Grammy Awards, each bringing their distinct styles to the stage. Alade’s nomination for Best African Music Performance with “Tomorrow” is a testament to her dedication, while Asake’s “MMS” featuring Wizkid has earned him a spot in the same category. Rema’s nomination for Best Global Music Album with his song “HEIS” has many believing this could be the breakthrough moment in his career.

Beyond the Nigerian stars, legendary Beninese-French singer Angélique Kidjo is also up for Best Global Music Performance, facing competition from Ghana’s Rocky Dawuni.

As always, the Grammy Awards will feature an array of performances from big names, with Beyoncé taking center stage as the most-nominated artist of the year, leading with 11 nominations, including Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter. Other performers include Shakira, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, and Chris Martin of Coldplay, among many others.

Trevor Noah returns as the host for the fifth consecutive year, and while the Grammy Week events have been reduced, the night promises to be a blend of celebration and fundraising efforts to support victims of the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

With intense competition and Nigerian artists making their mark globally, this year’s Grammy Awards are set to be one for the books.
