According to a statement from her family, signed by Mrs. Banji Sokoya, she died peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Ibadan, where she spent most of her life.

Born on October 23, 1936, Agbaje-Williams made history as the first person to appear on Africa’s first television station, Western Nigerian Television (WNTV), during its test transmission and official opening on October 31, 1959. She also became the first voice on Africa’s first commercial radio station, WNBS, earning her the title “Double-First.”

Her illustrious broadcasting career spanned decades, and she retired in July 1986 as a highly respected producer and director.

Her family expressed deep sorrow at her passing, remembering her impactful contributions to broadcasting and thanking well-wishers for their support. They requested privacy during this period of mourning, with funeral arrangements to be announced later.
