Olaiya Igwe Reveals Why He Ignored Tope Alabi’s Calls Before Her Wedding

Speaking in a report by DAILY POST, Olaiya Igwe recounted how Alabi and her husband, Soji, had asked to use his newly acquired luxury car as their official wedding vehicle. Initially, he agreed, but as the big day approached, he changed his mind due to a traumatic experience.
Before the wedding, the actor had traveled to Ibadan, where armed robbers stole his car. Though it was recovered the next day, the incident left him shaken. Fearing another possible misfortune, he started having second thoughts about lending the vehicle to Alabi.
Rather than explaining his concerns, he chose to avoid the situation altogether. The day before the wedding, he stopped answering Tope Alabi’s calls and ultimately did not provide the car. This last-minute decision forced the couple to find alternative transportation.
Despite the years that have passed, Olaiya Igwe admitted that the guilt still lingers. He acknowledged that Alabi has since achieved great success and now owns multiple luxury cars that far surpass what he could have offered at the time.
Recalling the incident, he said:
“Tope Alabi informed me about her wedding, and I just bought a car ‘V boot’ at that time. I went to Ibadan in Oyo State to show one of my films, and my car was stolen from me by robbers but was later recovered the following day. When I returned from Ibadan, Tope Alabi came to my house in Abeokuta and said, ‘Big brother, please we want to use your car for our wedding,’ and I said no problem. But after she left, I had a second thought that what if armed robbers snatched the car from them? I stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding. I didn’t give her the car.”
While the incident is long past, it remains a moment of personal regret for the actor.
