Taye Currency Declares Pasuma as His Boss, Calls Saheed Osupa a Colleague

In a recent interview with Akede Ariya, Taye Currency clarified that although he did not learn Fuji music directly from Pasuma, he has always admired him for his humility.

“I met Pasuma in 1993, and since then we have been together. I didn’t learn Fuji music from him, I just love him because he is a humble person. It is not that I’m disrespecting him or anything. I wasn’t his drummer or backup singer. He was in Lagos, and I was in Ibadan. So, the controversy between us was caused by fan reactions. We are not fighting. Those who are insulting us are berating and disrespecting us,” he explained.

Speaking on past disagreements, he pointed out that misunderstandings are natural in long-term relationships but insisted there was no bad blood between them.

“Anybody who has known each other for 30 years, even as a boss and a worker, is liable to have misunderstandings. We are not the first to have a misunderstanding, but it is our fans who are prolonging it. Pasuma is not a troublesome person, nor am I. So I have asked people the questions repeatedly; how did I insult Pasuma, what did I insult Pasuma with?”

Taye Currency also clarified his stance on other Fuji artists, stating, “Obesere, who is now a leader for us in Fuji music, is my brother. Saheed Osupa, on the other hand, is my colleague; I know him just as a singer. But Pasuma is my boss because I admit it.”

His latest remarks follow a controversy from October 2024, when he objected to being referred to as Pasuma’s ‘son’ in the Fuji music industry, asserting that the star was more like an elder brother to him. The comment sparked debates among fans, with many of Pasuma’s supporters criticizing him.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the two artists met in Mecca during Umrah 2025, where Taye Currency expressed regret over any misunderstanding caused by his previous statements. In a viral video, he was seen apologizing to Pasuma and reaffirming his respect for him.

He emphasized that his words had been misinterpreted and made it clear that he never intended to disrespect the Fuji legend.
