In a recent interview with Forbes Africa, the Water & Garri hitmaker explained that she doesn’t believe she has the “gift” for mentoring and overseeing artistes under her label.
“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else,” she said.
Rather than running a record label, Tiwa Savage intends to support young talents in a different way. She revealed plans to establish a music school where aspiring artistes can hone their craft before signing with record labels that can effectively guide their careers.
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added.
Her revelation has sparked conversations about the difficulties of managing artistes and the alternative ways industry veterans can support upcoming musicians.
