The suspect, 19-year-old Amaya Medrano, has been charged with capital murder. Police disclosed her arrest on November 13 following a preliminary investigation and surveillance footage that captured the fatal encounter. The video shows Alkhalaf and Medrano briefly conversing at an Oak Cliff gas station on November 8, before Medrano turned and shot Alkhalaf, fleeing the scene.
Responding to a call around 3 p.m. that day, officers discovered Alkhalaf’s body next to his pickup truck. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Further investigation led police to Medrano, identified through her distinctive facial and neck tattoos. Authorities tracked her down after finding the stolen iPhone 15 listed for sale under the same Facebook account used in the initial transaction.
Records obtained from court filings reveal that Medrano had a prior conviction for stabbing another individual in 2023 and was on a five-year probation at the time of her arrest.
Medrano is currently held at the Dallas County Jail, with bond set at $1 million. The case highlights the dangers associated with online marketplaces and underscores the importance of safety precautions during in-person transactions.
