A Canadian Woman Arrested by NDLEA for Importing Illicit Drugs

A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to import a large quantity of synthetic cannabis, known as ‘Canadian Loud.’ Continue Reading>>>>

Adrienne was apprehended on October 3, 2024, during the inward clearance of passengers on a KLM flight from Canada. A joint examination of her three bags revealed 74 parcels of the illicit substance, weighing 35.20 kilograms, concealed in two of her bags.

According to the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Adrienne confessed that she had been recruited online to smuggle the drugs into Nigeria for $10,000 CAD, which she intended to use to fund her ongoing master’s degree in Canada.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives intercepted over 13 million opioid pills, including Tramadol, Tapentadol, and codeine-based cough syrup, worth more than ₦9 billion at the Port Harcourt Ports in Rivers State. Further, on October 3, at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos, NDLEA agents intercepted 100 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 50kg hidden inside a container with four imported vehicles from Canada. The drugs were found concealed in a Toyota Sienna bus. A suspect, Abubakar Shuaibu Ibrahim, has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives also intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Onitsha to Jalingo and discovered 80 blocks of cannabis weighing 38kg hidden in bags of garri. Two suspects, Pako Thomas and Emmanuel Anyigor, were arrested in connection with the drugs. Another suspect, Chibuzor Okafor, was apprehended on October 2 with cannabis concealed in similar bags.

Meanwhile, in Lagos, NDLEA agents arrested Bolanle Ajenifuja on October 4 and seized 700 liters of “skuchies,” a cocktail of chapman mixed with illicit drugs. Three other suspects were also arrested in connection with the substance.

Additionally, the NDLEA raided two cannabis farms at Bridge Camp, a border area between Edo and Ondo states. Over 9,966 kilograms of cannabis were destroyed on three hectares of farmland, while 48kg of the processed drug was recovered.
