Akpabio Calls on CAF to Penalize Libyan FA Following Super Eagles’ Difficult Experience

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee to conduct a full investigation into the mistreatment experienced by Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, at a Libyan airport. Akpabio made this statement on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, demanding that CAF take action against those involved in the poor treatment of the team.The Super Eagles’ flight, originally headed to Benghazi, was unexpectedly redirected to Abraq Airport, causing delays and stress for the team as they prepared for their 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya.

Despite multiple requests from team officials, the Libyan Football Association did not provide transportation, leaving the players stranded for hours.Due to the harsh treatment, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) decided to withdraw the Super Eagles from the scheduled match.
