A 23-year-old armed robbery suspect, Godwin Emmanuel, has admitted to stealing a police officer’s phone while being transported to the Osun State Police Command in a patrol vehicle. One particularly harrowing incident described by the police involved a 65-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted while taking her husband to the hospital. The police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, provided an overview of the suspects’ activities, emphasizing their violent behavior. “These individuals not only robbed motorists and passengers but also inflicted significant physical harm,” Opalola said. She mentioned that one of the victims, a bus driver, had been shot in the leg and was subsequently treated at the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife.

The capture of the suspects unfolded after Olajide Kareem was found hiding in a nearby bush and admitted his involvement in a five-man gang from Ikorodu, Lagos State, which conducted armed robberies in Osun State. The other two suspects were arrested shortly after.

In a surprising twist, Godwin Emmanuel recounted how he managed to steal a phone inside the patrol van. “I was arrested for armed robbery, and while being transported to Osogbo, I took a phone inside the patrol vehicle. I didn’t realize it belonged to an officer. I intended to use it to inform my family of my arrest since they were unaware. I removed the SIM card and hid the phone in the cell. I’m asking for forgiveness; I won’t do it again,” he pleaded.
