According to local residents, six of the victims were beheaded, and the attackers carried the severed heads with them as they fled. The attack took place at around 5 a.m., coinciding with morning prayers.Bala Tukur, a resident of the area, described the incident as “traumatic,” noting that the violence has forced many to flee their homes. “They killed 10 people without mercy and left many others injured,” Tukur said.

He also mentioned that the attacks have disrupted the local harvest, with some villagers having to pay fees to the bandits in order to safely harvest their crops.Local sources report an increase in banditry across several local government areas in Niger State, including Rafi, Wushishi, Shiroro, Mariga, and Kontagora, with many of the attacks taking place during the harvest season.In a related event, bandits recently raided Zungeru town, abducting residents from their homes and a local hotel.

Among those taken were Saidu Yakubu, known as Abacha, and his wife.Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, confirmed that authorities are aware of the situation and have deployed security forces to respond. However, Wasiu Abiodun, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that he needed more time to confirm the specifics of the attack.
