Bandits on Revenge Mission Face Heavy Losses in Zamfara Community

Sani Black, a notorious pioneer of terrorism in Zamfara, was killed by vigilantes earlier this year. Known as a protégé of the late Tsoho Buhari and an ally of the late Halilu Sububu, both prominent figures in banditry, his death has sparked multiple retaliatory attempts by his loyalists.

According to local sources, the bandits attacked Unguwar Galadima around 5 a.m., targeting residents who were preparing for dawn prayers. “This was the second failed attempt to avenge Sani Black’s death,” a source told reporters on condition of anonymity.

Vigilantes stationed in the community quickly mobilized to defend the area, resulting in the deaths of several bandits. The attackers abandoned 10 rifles and fled the scene. Despite the successful defense, two residents sustained injuries during the clash and are currently receiving treatment at Dansadau Hospital in the nearby town of Dansadau.

As the bandits retreated from Unguwar Galadima, soldiers stationed in the area ambushed them, further disrupting their plans. Security forces reportedly recovered several arms, including an explosive device, during the operation.

The prompt response of the vigilantes and military highlights the growing resilience of local communities and security personnel in combating banditry in Zamfara State. However, the failed raid underscores the persistent threat posed by bandits seeking to enforce their dominance and retaliate against opposition.

Efforts to reach Suleiman Omale, the spokesperson for Operation Hadarin Daji, a joint military task force combating banditry in the region, were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable on Sunday morning.

Zamfara State remains one of the epicenters of banditry in Nigeria, with communities frequently targeted by armed groups for attacks, abductions, and extortion. The government has called for increased vigilance and cooperation between security forces and local vigilantes to tackle the growing menace.
