Convicted Kidnapper Evans Seeks Plea Bargain, Claims He’s Now a Teacher

Appearing before Justice Sherifat Sonaike at the Lagos High Court, Evans revealed that he now works as a teacher at Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre and has earned a diploma in economics from Yewa College of Education.

As part of his plea, Evans has offered to surrender all his properties, including 14 brand-new trucks, with the proceeds intended to compensate his victims.

This is the second time Evans has sought a plea bargain, following a previous request before Justice Adenike Coker on January 30, 2025.

With five criminal cases in Lagos, Evans has already been convicted twice, receiving a life sentence in one case and 21 years in another.

His lawyer, Etudo Emefo, argued that the Lagos State Government’s forgiveness is crucial for Evans to take advantage of a Federal Government scholarship he received while in prison.

The Lagos State Government has confirmed receipt of the application and has set up a committee to review it.

Justice Sonaike adjourned the case to April 17, 2025, for a report on the plea bargain or continuation of the trial if the request is denied.
