This reaction underscores the emotional burden Kanu carries as a symbol of the unfulfilled aspirations from the post-Biafra war period. Many in the South-East view his detention as emblematic of their perceived marginalization in Nigeria, which fuels further dissatisfaction and unrest.

Ulasi suggested that the government should take a bold step by releasing Kanu to see if this move would help reduce the violence carried out in his name. He believes that Kanu’s influence could play a key role in restoring calm, provided his release is handled appropriately.

In an interview with AIT, Ulasi explained, “I stopped visiting him because he gets very emotional. When he sees me, he starts crying. Kanu represents the hope and energy of the post-war Biafra generation, born in 1969. People almost revere him because there’s so much disillusionment in the region. “Ulasi added that Kanu’s detention reflects this feeling of alienation. “Why is he being held? What did he say? You can’t even tell who is behind the violence being carried out in his name because of his imprisonment.”He called on the government to take a risk by releasing Kanu, noting, “Let’s see what happens after his release. I don’t think people will continue committing crimes in his name because Kanu is very influential. His name alone stirs concern in any gathering. He’s a forward-thinking, positive, and highly intelligent individual.”
