Despite Collecting the Ransom, Suspects Allegedly Sold the Baby for N500,000—Umoru Ozigi

The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a kidnapped infant, concluding an extensive months-long investigation. Commissioner Ozigi disclosed that the anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime unit had arrested 24-year-old Rejoice Chukwu and her accomplice, Destiny Uchechukwu, in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State. According to the Commissioner, the suspects orchestrated the kidnapping in Benin and initially extracted a ransom of N160,000 from the infant’s family.

“Despite receiving the ransom, the suspects allegedly sold the baby for N500,000 to Doris Chiwendu in Owerri, Imo State. Following intensive interrogation, the police were able to track down Chiwendu and another suspect, Jane Amaigbo, in Ubomiri, Imo State, leading to the successful rescue of the child on November 9,” Commissioner Ozigi reported during the briefing.

The Police Commissioner assured the public that all individuals involved will face charges as the investigation wraps up.

This case represents a significant milestone for the Edo State Police Command, showcasing effective interstate collaboration in addressing child abduction and ensuring justice.
