Dino Melaye, arguing that his accusations were unfounded and stemmed from an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt in Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State, Melaye’s hometown.Melaye pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 1, 2018.

In July 2018, Melaye again accused the Kogi State police of attempting to assassinate him. This claim came in response to reports that his security team had fired on police officers involved in a ‘stop and search’ operation in Mopa.
