Dispatch Rider Remanded for Using Employer’s Bike as Loan Collateral

Williams, who resides in Dutse Alhaji, pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to the court that he took the step after his boss, Mrs. Marthamabis Ezekiel, refused to give him money for the festive period.

“I asked my boss for money for Christmas celebrations, but she refused. So I used her delivery bike as collateral to borrow money,” Williams confessed while pleading for mercy.

Employer Reports Theft, Court Orders Remand

Prosecution counsel John Okpa urged the court to order Williams to compensate Ezekiel, citing Section 319 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

Magistrate Nneaka Lesley convicted Williams and ordered his remand at Kuje Correctional Facility, reserving sentencing until February 4.

According to Okpa, Ezekiel had reported the incident to the Dawaki Divisional Police Headquarters on January 12. She stated that Williams, whom she had employed as a dispatch rider for Jinora Logistics, went missing with the motorcycle on December 4.

Investigations revealed that Williams had sold the bike without his employer’s consent. To cover up his actions, he falsely claimed he had an accident and demanded ₦50,000 from Ezekiel.

His actions were found to be in violation of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
