EFCC Acknowledges Issues in Car Auction, Promises to Address Complaints

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has admitted to technical glitches that affected the recent public auction of forfeited vehicles, which was conducted by accredited auctioneers on its behalf. EFCC monitoring of the auction confirmed the glitches, and the commission communicated these concerns to the auctioneers for necessary corrective measures. However, due to the auction being managed by licensed auctioneers as per the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act, 2022, and the Public Procurement Act, 2007, the EFCC could not directly intervene during the process.

The commission explained that the high number of participants—over 4 million—may have overwhelmed the online systems, and the unstable internet connection in certain areas exacerbated the issues.

While awaiting the auctioneers’ report, the EFCC assured the public that any valid complaints will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure fairness. Successful bidders who did not face any issues will receive their vehicles as scheduled.

The EFCC emphasized that the goal of the auction was to offer a transparent platform for Nigerians to participate in the sale of forfeited assets, and any complaints would be addressed to maintain the integrity of the process. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the assets are disposed of fairly, with the nation benefiting from their sale.
