INEC Sets Date for Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the date for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State.During a meeting with political party representatives at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on October 17, INEC chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced that the election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025. He noted that the last governorship election in Anambra was held on November 6, 2021, and the next one is now due.Yakubu stated that the Commission has set the election date for November 8, 2025, in accordance with the required timeframe.

The official announcement for the election will be made on November 13, 2024, in line with the 360-day notice period. Political parties will conduct their primaries between March 20 and April 10, 2025.The candidate nomination portal will be available from 9:00 AM on April 18, 2025, until 6:00 PM on May 12, 2025. The final list of candidates is expected to be released on June 9, 2025. Political parties can begin their public campaigns on June 11, 2025, and must conclude by midnight on November 6, 2025. Voting will occur across all 5,720 polling units in the state on November 8, 2025.

In the upcoming weeks, INEC will share more information about other electoral processes, including new voter registrations, voter transfers, and procedures for replacing lost or damaged PVCs. The complete timetable and schedule for the 2025 Anambra governorship election will be made available on the Commission’s website and social media channels by the end of the meeting.
