KYN: “We Will Not Stand Idly By While Our Ancestors’ Graves Are Disturbed”

The alarm was raised during a press conference held over the weekend in Jalingo, the state capital, as reported by DAILY POST.KYN, under the leadership of national president Emmanuel Ukwen, cautioned that these actions, if carried out, could exacerbate religious tensions in Taraba and beyond.

Accompanied by several executives, Ukwen, who spoke through Barrister Markus Apwende, the state chairman of KYN, emphasized that the Central Mosque, a vital religious site for the local Muslim community, is at risk due to the government’s urban development initiatives.

They called for peaceful dialogue, stressing the importance of respecting the religious and cultural institutions within the state.KYN claimed, “A site engineer, along with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum and some individuals in vigilante uniforms, were seen marking and pegging the area around the mosque and palace.”

The group urged the government to reconsider its plans, describing the proposed demolition as “the highest level of provocation,” and appealed to the federal government and the international community for intervention.

“We urge the government and security agencies to ensure that no harm comes to the Takum Central Mosque and Ukwe Takum Palace, as doing so would be an affront to the cherished customs and traditions of the Kuteb people, particularly since the palace is the resting place of our past traditional rulers,” they stated.continue Reading>>>

They further expressed, “No one will sit idly by while their ancestors’ graves are disturbed and be pleased about it.”KYN appealed to all Kuteb youths to remain calm and law-abiding while waiting for a response from the authorities, highlighting the need for all peace-loving individuals to intervene to prevent what they see as “devilish plans.”

They added, “Takum has experienced many crises, and tensions are already high in the area.
