Lagos State Police Command Launches First-Ever Nigeria Police Week with Medical Outreach and Cleanup Campaigns

The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, has officially commenced the inaugural Nigeria Police Week in the state. According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Inclusive Policing: A Panacea to Improved Security and Economic Growth in Lagos State.” The theme emphasizes the need for collaboration among security agencies and the active involvement of various stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property within the state. The National Police Week provides an opportunity for the Nigeria Police Force to reinforce its relationship with the public, celebrate the dedication of officers, and engage in meaningful discussions about improving security.
In line with directives from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Lagos State Police Command officially launched its activities for the week on April 3. Officers kicked off the event at Computer Village, Ikeja, by offering free medical check-ups, wellness workshops, and mental health awareness programs to the public. Additionally, they participated in a city-wide cleanup exercise, targeting major parks, bus stops, and markets across the state’s fourteen (14) area commands.
As part of the scheduled events, on April 4, the command will hold a Community Outreach Program and Stakeholders’ Engagement at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja, starting at 9:00 AM. This interactive town hall meeting will provide a platform for residents and police officers to discuss security concerns and community-related issues.
On April 5, officers will embark on a Walkathon, beginning at 6:00 AM from the Command Headquarters in Ikeja and passing through key locations in Lagos. This initiative is designed to foster camaraderie, celebrate diversity, and strengthen trust between the police and the public.
The Lagos State Police Command has extended an open invitation to all residents and security stakeholders to actively participate in the week-long celebrations. Hundeyin also called on the public to continue working closely with the police, assuring them of the command’s commitment to ensuring a safer Lagos for all.
