In a statement released by the council’s chairman, Kehinde Oloyede, and shared on the council’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Oloyede’s media aide confirmed the plans. “All is now set for the renaming of Liverpool Road in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government after the son of Nigeria’s President, Amb. Seyi Tinubu,” the statement read.

Liverpool Road is a critical route within the community, connecting the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and serving as a gateway to the international airport. Its strategic importance to the area adds weight to this renaming decision, which underscores the road’s transformation and the community’s evolving identity.

Chairman Oloyede provided historical context for the decision, recounting the road’s troubled past. “The road was a lion’s den, as no one could dare pass through it either during the day or at night,” he explained. Upon assuming office, his administration undertook significant efforts to rehabilitate the area, clearing out criminal elements and restoring safety and functionality to the road.

The renaming ceremony is expected to take place soon, with the official date yet to be announced. This move is part of a broader initiative by the Oshodi-Isolo council to honor individuals who have made meaningful contributions to societal growth, especially in youth development and community service.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among residents. While some applaud the recognition of Seyi Tinubu’s efforts in youth empowerment, others have questioned the necessity of renaming such a prominent road. The debate highlights the complexities of honoring individuals through public landmarks and the differing opinions on what constitutes worthy recognition.

As the official commissioning date approaches, Liverpool Road is set to become a symbol of transformation and acknowledgment, reflecting both the achievements of Seyi Tinubu and the Oshodi-Isolo council’s commitment to celebrating impactful contributions within the community.
