Okonkwo’s remarks came after Tinubu’s maiden media chat on Monday, where the president assessed his administration as being on track to address the nation’s challenges. Tinubu highlighted progress in security and pledged to reduce inflation from 34% to 10% by 2025, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful.
“We are focused; we’ll maintain focus. Let’s believe in ourselves and our country. Tomorrow will bring a glorious dawn,” Tinubu said during the chat.
In an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, Okonkwo dismissed Tinubu’s claims, criticizing the administration’s performance and self-appraisal.
“The worst statement the president made during his first media chat was scoring himself ‘excellent.’ President Tinubu has delivered the worst leadership since Nigeria’s independence,” Okonkwo said.
He cited persistent national grid failures, worsening insecurity, and alleged government extravagance as evidence of Tinubu’s poor leadership.
“From October till now, over 2,496 people have been murdered, and many more kidnapped. This is under a president claiming improved security and owning the most expensive cars in Nigeria’s history,” Okonkwo added.
