According to Shettima, his CSO worked with him for eight years during the period when he was governor of Borno State. He said his CSO slept in the same room with him at the height of the Boko Haram insurgency in the state and he remained loyal to him even after he left office.

He worked with me for eight years in government house, in Maiduguri and even when I moved to Abuja, he came down to Abuja and he was loyally visiting me every weekend at home. I picked a northern Christian to be my ADC (aide-de-camp) again for inclusivity”.
