The dawn of a new year comes with renewed hopes and aspirations. By God’s grace, 2025 will be a year of promise, progress, and fulfillment of our shared dreams.
Despite the challenges of 2024, brighter days lie ahead. Key economic indicators point to positive trends: fuel prices have eased, foreign trade surpluses have been recorded for three consecutive quarters, foreign reserves have increased, and the Naira has strengthened. The stock market’s unprecedented growth has created wealth, and rising foreign investments reflect growing confidence in our economy.
However, the high cost of food and essential drugs remains a pressing concern for many households.
In 2025, our government is resolute in its mission to alleviate these burdens. We will intensify efforts to boost food production and encourage local manufacturing of essential medical supplies. Our target is to significantly reduce inflation from its current 34.6% to 15%. With determination and divine guidance, we will achieve this and provide relief for all Nigerians.
We are also committed to expanding access to credit to stimulate economic output. To this end, we will establish the National Credit Guarantee Company by the second quarter of 2025. This initiative, in partnership with public and private institutions, will strengthen financial systems, expand credit access, and support underserved groups like women and youth. It will drive growth, industrialization, and improved living standards.
On a personal note, I deeply appreciate the trust you have placed in me as your President. This trust inspires me to work tirelessly for our nation’s growth and prosperity.
Our ambition to build a one-trillion-dollar economy remains unwavering. But achieving this requires unity and cooperation. Let us remain focused and avoid distractions from a small segment still entrenched in divisive politics, ethnicity, and religion.
Fostering Citizenship and National Values
Our national goals depend on responsible citizenship and unwavering allegiance to Nigeria. In 2025, we will promote shared values and ethical principles through the National Identity Project. The National Values Charter, already approved by the Federal Executive Council, will be unveiled in the first quarter, alongside a national orientation campaign to inspire patriotism and mutual trust.
These reforms are foundational, but their success hinges on a collective commitment to shared values and love for our country.
Youth empowerment remains central to our agenda. The Youth Confab, starting in early 2025, will provide an inclusive platform for young Nigerians to contribute to nation-building. Details of the conference will soon be announced by the Ministry of Youth.
Collaborative Progress
I call on our governors and local council chairpersons to align with the central government in seizing opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. Many states have already embraced initiatives like CNG-powered public transport and electric vehicles, demonstrating leadership in our energy transition. The Federal Government will continue to support these efforts.
To all Nigerians, your sacrifices over the past 19 months have not been in vain. Together, let us stay the course and build the Nigeria of our dreams.
As we enter this New Year, let us believe in ourselves, keep faith in our nation, and work together for a brighter future.
May God bless you all, and may God bless Nigeria.
Happy New Year!
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria
