The incident occurred around 3 pm as the newlyweds were returning to the mainland from the Ikoyi Marriage Registry. According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by brake failure on the LT bus (BFG 204 XF), which was speeding and collided with a slow-moving mini truck (AGL 22 YE) that had a mechanical fault.

The crash left 16 passengers in the rear of the LT bus—11 women and five men—with significant injuries. They were promptly transported to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Centre for urgent medical attention.

Two passengers in the front seat of the bus were trapped in the wreckage, suffering severe limb fractures. Emergency responders, including LASTMA personnel, LASEMA, and bystanders, worked together to rescue them. They were later taken to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy for the victims and urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and maintain their vehicles, particularly braking systems, to prevent similar incidents.

He also emphasized LASTMA’s ongoing public awareness campaigns targeting commercial drivers to promote safe driving practices, especially during the festive season.
