It could be recalled that the Federal High Court sitting in Kano said the votes gotten by Alex Otti during the gubernatorial election in the State is nothing but waste.
According to Justice M N Yunusa of the court, the Labour Party failed to comply with the 2022 Electoral Acts by failing to submit their candidates’ names 30 days before the primary election as stipulated by the law.
The judgement has generated a lot of controversies among Nigerians, and in his reaction, Labour Party presidential flag bearer said the High Court ruling will not stand.
Daily Post reported that Obi made this known while speaking through his chief spokesperson, Tanko Yunusa. He said the High Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the electoral matter.
According to the report, Mr Yunusa said the supporters of the Labour Party should calm down regarding the situation because the legal team of the Labour Party is already working to appeal the judgement.
” The judgement will not stand because the Federal High Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain an electoral matter. It is within the jurisdiction of the electoral tribunal. I believe this is the work of the opposition party; however, the will of the Abia people will stand, ” he said. Continue Reading>>>
Similarly, the Labour Party through the chairman of the party in Abia State, Hon. Ceekay Igara, described the judgement of the court as ” laughable” .
Daily Post reported that Mr Igara made this known while speaking to the newsmen on Friday regarding the judgement. The party chairman insisted that the court’ s pronouncement would bear no significance in the forthcoming inauguration of the Governor- elect.
In his statement, Igara expressed, ” The court’ s pronouncement is laughable. Everyone should continue with their regular activities. Only the tribunal can remove Alex Otti. A court alone cannot remove someone who was duly elected. In fact, I am intensifying preparations for the inauguration. “
It should be noted that during the March 18 governorship election, Otti polled 175, 467 votes to win the election.
