While Obinna Obeta, a doctor, received a 10- year time period for the same offense, his spouse Beatrice received a 4- 12 months, 6 month sentence.

The three were found guilty in March of smuggling a young Nigerian man named David Ukpo to the UK in order to remove his kidney for Sonia Ekweremadu, the daughter of Nigeria’ s top senator.
Remember that in an effort to give former Senate deputy president Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, a favorable outcome, the House of Representatives had written to the United Kingdom government, in particular the parliament, requesting intervention?
In a direct message to the British Crown at Tuesday’ s plenary, Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila demanded that the UK Criminal Court take the MPs’ request into consideration.
The House also requested that the federal government use diplomacy to ” intervene” in the lawmaker’ s trial.
Since 2003, Ekweremadu has served as the opposition Peoples Democratic Party’ s representative for southeast Nigeria’ s Enugu West seat.
This week, Nigerian parliamentary leaders pleaded for mercy before a London court, stating that Ekweremadu was a first- time offender who had made significant contributions to West African politics.
