Osun Government Declares Olaiya Flyover Unneeded, Citing Aregbesola’s Traffic Solutions

The Osun State Government recently criticized the construction of the Olaiya flyover in Osogbo, labeling it unnecessary. Alimi pointed out that the decision by former governor Gboyega Oyetola to go forward with the flyover project was misguided.Osun Defender reports that Goke Omigbodun, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the last election, has criticized the state government for restricting heavy-duty trucks from using the flyover.
Omigbodun accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of building unnecessary flyovers, further questioning the government’s approach to education, energy, infrastructure, budgeting, and worker welfare.Responding to Omigbodun’s critique, Alimi dismissed his claims, emphasizing that Aregbesola’s administration had created four additional routes around the Olaiya junction to alleviate traffic congestion, making a flyover unnecessary.
Alimi elaborated that the four roads were specifically designed to divert vehicles away from the Olaiya junction. These include a route from Alekuwodo to Fakunle that allows vehicles to bypass Olaiya; another from Asubiaro/Jaleyemi to MDS; a road from MDS to Alekuwodo; and a final one from Fakunle to Jaleyemi, all of which reroute traffic to reduce congestion at olaiya. According to Alimi, these four alternative routes have effectively minimized traffic at the Olaiya junction. He argued that claims of congestion at the junction are unfounded.On the other hand, Alimi argued that a flyover at Oke-Fia is justifiable, given the significant traffic buildup there, especially during peak hours, and the lack of alternate routes to divert vehicles.
