Speaking at the 66th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja on Sunday, Tinubu highlighted Ghana’s exemplary presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2024.

The elections marked a peaceful transition of power as former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious over incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In a notable act of democratic maturity, Bawumia graciously conceded defeat and congratulated Mahama even before the official results were declared.

“The peaceful conduct of Ghana’s elections and the dignified concession by the losing candidate are benchmarks of democratic values that other nations in our region should strive to emulate,” Tinubu stated.

He commended the electoral process and its outcomes as a model for strengthening democracy in West Africa, urging ECOWAS leaders to prioritize peaceful and credible elections in their respective countries.
