Rivers Crisis: NGO Condemns Lawmakers’ Remarks, Raises Concerns Over Incitement

According to a report by SYMFONI TV, the NGO expressed concern over recent statements made by some National Assembly members during a visit to political figure Martins Amaewhule. The group accused them of making inflammatory remarks against the state government, specifically targeting Governor Nyesom Wike and human rights lawyer Femi Falana.

“We write and speak not as politicians but as an NGO, unlike King Nero, who sat idly by while his kingdom was in flames,” a representative from the organization stated. They criticized the lawmakers for acting in a way they described as self-serving and harmful to the peace and stability of Rivers State.

The NGO further warned that such statements could incite violence, alleging that the lawmakers aimed to turn the people of Rivers against their government. “They want to cause Rivers people against the government, and they also want to cause Rivers people to say anybody that sees Femi Falana should stone him to death,” the statement reads.
