1. Hadiza Bala Usman has been suspended as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). A source in the ministry of transportation disclosed this on Thursday.

2. The House of Representatives has for the second time within two weeks asked President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on security in Nigeria. The lawmakers made the call during Thursday’s plenary.

3. The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Thursday released results for the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination for external candidates. The board’s Registrar, Prof Godswill Obioma, disclosed this yesterday.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, said Nigeria needs to get the ongoing linkage of SIMs to National Identification Numbers (NIN) right, saying it would determine the success of the ongoing war against insecurity. He spoke during the launch of the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in Nigerian Telecoms Sector.

5. An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi yesterday disclosed that he and former president, Olusegun Obasanjo mediated in ensuring the release of 27 abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State. He spoke when the parents of the affected students paid him a thank-you visit on Thursday.

6. There was tension yesterday in Gengere, mile 12 in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State following a fight between some hoodlums in the area. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CAP Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident.

7. Gunmen have abducted an unspecified number of students of Abia State University (ABSU) Uturu. The Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi-Kalu said they were seized from a minibus heading to Uturu from Okigwe in Imo State.

8. Kairo market at the Oshodi area of Lagos yesterday went up in flames, as a night fire which engulfed the market has destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira. Witnesses said the fire started at about 7 pm Thursday.

9. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday said when 29 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, were abducted, the plan was to attack and kill the bandits even if it meant some students would die in the process. The governor said this yesterday during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group.

10. Another policeman was killed when gunmen in the early hours of Thursday invaded the Obiozara police station in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state. Police spokesman Loveth Odah confirmed the attack.
