Tinubu Emphasizes Artificial Intelligence in Enhancing Nigeria’s Security as 91 Graduate from DSS Institute

Tinubu made the remarks after conferring the Fellowship of the Security Institute (FSI) on 91 individuals who completed a 10-month AI course at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja.

Represented by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, President Tinubu highlighted that the global embrace of AI in combating modern crimes means Nigeria must not be left behind. He also praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for its leadership in maintaining internal security and reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening security efforts.

In his address, the Director-General of DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, outlined the history of NISS, noting that it evolved from the Abuja Training School (ATS) into its current form in 2008. Ajayi highlighted that the NISS now plays a pivotal role in training for intelligence, security, and policy-making across Nigeria and Africa, especially after being elevated by law in 2019.

The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other top security officials. In his remarks, the Vice President urged the new Fellows to rise to the challenges posed by modern security threats, emphasizing the importance of AI in enhancing Nigeria’s security architecture.

President Tinubu also commended the leadership of the new DSS DG, Mr. Ajayi, and recognized the remarkable achievements of the NISS. The highlight of the event was the conferring of FSI titles to 91 graduates, including international participants. This event marked a significant step in strengthening inter-agency collaboration for national security.

Former DSS Directors-General also attended the event, showing support for the current leadership. They commended the strides made in transforming the National Institute and emphasized the need for continued government support in deepening research and strengthening Nigeria’s security and intelligence management.

The occasion concluded with a goodwill message from retired DG A.K. Horsfall, who announced the formation of a Forum for retired DGs, aimed at enhancing knowledge sharing and supporting smooth transitions in DSS leadership.
