Tope Fasanya: arrested for allegedly putting rat poison in the food of her guardian

Tope Fasanya, a senior secondary School student has been arrested by the police in Ogun for allegedly putting rat poison in the food she served to her guardian, Mrs. Esther Bada with intent to kill her.

Ogun police command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement said Fasanya was arrested following a complaint by her guardian.

According to the statement, Bada had reported that she felt a sharp pain and became very uncomfortable after she ate a portion of food served to her by the student.

She said the pain when the pain becoming so severe, she called Fasanya to come and eat the remaining portion of the food but she refused and this made her to suspect foul play.

Upon the report, the victim was quickly taken to Owode Egba general hospital, from where she was referred to Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta for proper medical treatment.

Fasanya was subsequently arrested.

On interrogation, the maid initially denied poisoning the food and she was transferred to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department.

According to the police statement, on getting there, she confessed that she actually add rat poison to the victim’s food.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that Fasanya has been living with the woman since when she was in primary three, and the woman was her class teacher then.

Following the death of her father, the victim volunteered to help the girl by taking her to live in her house and from there going to school on her bill.

It was the victim that sponsored the suspect’s education up till her present class.

When asked why she decided to kill her benefactor, the suspect who described the victim as a very caring person said that she only wanted to return to her mother and she can only do that if her guardian is no more.

The commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspect be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
