The collapse caused significant traffic congestion on the busy expressway as debris from the bridge blocked a large portion of the road.The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the collapse.

In a statement, the LASEMA official assured the public that no lives were lost and there were no injuries from the incident.According to LASEMA, they received distress calls through their emergency lines around 6:41 a.m., prompting the activation of their response team, which arrived at the scene by 6:50 a.m.Upon arrival, LASEMA’s team discovered that part of the pedestrian bridge had fallen, blocking half of the expressway.Continue Reading>>>

Initial investigations by LASEMA revealed that a truck transporting heavy equipment had crashed into the bridge earlier, leading to the cracks and eventual collapse.Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.LASEMA deployed heavy equipment, including a giant forklift, to clear the debris and prevent further accidents.

The response team has secured the area around the bridge, and decommissioning efforts are underway to safely dismantle the remaining sections of the bridge to protect the public.
