Zaria mosque collapse: Sultan pays condolence visit
Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has announced a generous gesture of providing one million naira to the families of each of the eight worshippers who tragically lost their lives during prayers at the Zaria Central Mosque.
Likewise, a sum of N500,000 was extended to the injured individuals currently undergoing medical treatment in various Zaria hospitals.
Muhammad Lawal Shehu, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, stated that this donation was made during Governor Sani’s condolence visit to the Emir of Zazzau’s palace on Tuesday.
Furthermore, Governor Sani assured that those discharged from the hospitals and receiving care at home would each receive the sum of N250,000.

During his visit to the Emir’s Palace, Governor Sani, accompanied by senior government officials, affirmed the state government’s commitment to collaborate with the Emirate Council for the swift renovation of the mosque, allowing worshippers to soon resume their religious activities.
“While I was away on official duties addressing critical matters affecting our state, this unfortunate incident transpired. I spoke with His Highness and dispatched a delegation to express our condolences and assess the situation. Today, I conveyed our deepest sympathies on behalf of the Kaduna State government regarding the regrettable incident at this historic mosque,” he stated.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who was present during the condolence visit, extended condolences on behalf of the entire Muslim Ummah to the people of Kaduna State following the tragic incident.
Sultan Abubakar commended Governor Sani for his generosity and dedication to the mosque’s renovation. He also encouraged the public to pray for leaders at all levels, placing trust in them to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them.
Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, informed the governor and the Sultan that the mosque, which collapsed, was constructed over a century ago in 1835 during Emir Abdulkarim’s reign.
The Emir expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State government for their support and prayers, promising to ensure the allocated funds reach the intended recipients.
To conclude the condolence visit, the Emir led Governor Sani on an inspection of the collapsed mosque’s site.
