Arewa Group Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Akpabio Over Natasha’s Suspension

In a strongly worded statement, the group warned that failure to comply would result in mass protests, including blocking major highways like the Lokoja-Lagos Road to disrupt the movement of goods between the North and South. Additionally, they threatened to occupy the National Assembly and demand Akpabio’s resignation.

The Arewa Group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, alleging that Akpabio has systematically sidelined Northern lawmakers. They highlighted previous conflicts involving the Senate President and senators such as Abdul Ningi and Ali Ndume, questioning why suspensions and political disputes seem to disproportionately affect Northern representatives.

They also accused Akpabio of neglecting the North’s development, pointing to his alleged role in halting the NLNG gas pipeline project that was meant to connect Kogi, Kaduna, and Kano. The group further criticized the process leading to Senator Natasha’s suspension, insisting that she was unfairly punished for raising a petition in the Senate.

Moreover, they referenced past allegations against Akpabio, including accusations of sexual harassment and corruption investigations by the EFCC, suggesting that his leadership lacks credibility.

With growing tensions, the group made it clear that if their demands are not met within 48 hours, they will escalate their protests, aiming to disrupt governance and economic activities nationwide.
