The group made a point of pointing out that the Presidential and National Assembly elections did not meet the criteria set forth in the Election Act of 2022, as modified.
The group specifically charged INEC with flagrantly violating the electoral laws as set forth in the relevant legislation governing the nation’s electoral process.
In a statement issued during a special general meeting convened at the home of the party’s leader in Isanya-Ogbo, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who argued that the conduct of the poll had broken both the Election Act and the Constitution, it was asserted that the election had been conducted illegally.
In a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, the group said that the election umpire’s flagrant contempt for the law promoted electoral brigandage at the polling places.
“That His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, won the said election, and we therefore support his decision to challenge the contrary declaration by the INEC. The results of the lawful votes cast at the election are available to the Afenifere through credible sources, which confirm this.
“That the General Meeting hereby strongly condemns and dissociates Afenifere from any congratulations message in the name of the organization or in any other way to any candidate as unlawfully announced by the INEC,” reads the resolution….Continue Reading
