Eselu of Eselu Kingdom Urges Tinubu to Open Borders as a Solution to Economic Hardship

The Eselu of Eselu Kingdom in Yewa North, Ogun State, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, has urged the federal government to alleviate the current economic hardship by reopening all borders for the importation of goods. According to him, this move is essential to address the widespread hunger and poverty affecting the country.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new executive members of the Integrity Obas Forum, Oba Akinyemi cautioned the government to adopt policies that would not harm the nation’s welfare. He encouraged the newly elected leaders to prioritize transparency and accountability, urging them to live up to the forum’s name—Integrity.

In related matters, the monarch called on the federal government to promptly implement the new national minimum wage, highlighting the importance of quick action to support Nigerian workers. He also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for initiating discussions with labor leaders in Ogun State to ensure the timely payment of the N70,000 minimum wage for state employees.

Additionally, the Alawowo of Awowo, Oba Abdulgafar Tijani, emphasized the need for the newly elected forum leaders to maintain unity, focus, and a strong commitment to transparency. The new president of the forum, Oba Adewunmi Odutala, the Onibudo of Aiyetoro Ibudo in Ado Odo/Ota, outlined the forum’s mission to support its members and the broader society.

Several traditional rulers were honored as patrons of the forum, including Oba Mufutau Adebayo Lawal, the Onipe of Ipe in Kwara State, and Oba Najeemdeen Oladele Odugbemi, the Olu of Lisa Kingdom, who was recognized as the Royal Patron of the Ogun State chapter of the NUJ and the South West region.
