Former Niger Delta Militant Leader Responds to Asari Dokubo's Latest Threats

Akpodoro warned that ignoring Dokubo’s threats—such as his claims about targeting military aircraft—could lead to further challenges to the government’s authority. In a statement to Vanguard, he urged prompt action against Dokubo, emphasizing the military’s responsibility to uphold national sovereignty and integrity.

He pointed out that Dokubo’s threats pose a serious risk to national security, noting that Dokubo never fully disarmed during the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). Akpodoro insisted that “no individual, including Dokubo, is above the Nigerian state” and called for explanations regarding Dokubo’s possession of weapons. He compared Dokubo to another former militant, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, who has contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

To ensure stability, Akpodoro suggested that Dokubo adopt a similar leadership approach as Tompolo. He stressed that if Dokubo attempts to follow through on his threats, the military is justified in taking necessary action to protect the nation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a firm response to security threats.
