Fubara Declares: I Won’t Yield to Blackmail on 64th Independence Day

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to building on the state’s achievements in peace, governance, and economic growth.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, which aim to address Nigeria’s structural challenges and promote long-term growth.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence in 1960, Fubara highlighted the historic significance of October 1, when Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the country’s first Prime Minister, raised the Nigerian flag, symbolizing the end of British colonial rule. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by past leaders to maintain the country’s unity, but expressed concern that, even after 64 years of independence, Nigeria continues to face issues like insecurity and economic hardship.

Despite these challenges, Fubara said there is still cause for celebration, noting Nigeria’s global recognition for its resilience, cultural diversity, and resourcefulness. He called on Nigerians to remain grateful for their progress and to work toward building a peaceful and prosperous nation where no one is oppressed.

The governor urged Nigerians to uphold the vision of the country’s founding leaders by promoting unity, peace, and justice. He emphasized the need for cooperation between citizens and the federal government to address pressing issues such as corruption, insecurity, and nepotism.

Fubara stressed that only through collective effort can Nigeria reach its full potential and become a global leader. He commended President Tinubu’s commitment to economic reform and encouraged fellow governors to enhance their efforts in combating insecurity, banditry, and oil theft, especially in the Niger Delta region, to ensure the success of these reforms.

Regarding his administration, Fubara assured the people of Rivers State of his dedication to improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He cited ongoing projects like the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Trans-Kalabari Road, and the rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

Fubara also praised the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies for their role in maintaining peace in Rivers State, pledging continued support for their efforts.
