Just In: Lagos Assembly Announces New Standing Committee Leaders Amidst Power Struggle

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has officially announced the chairpersons for the Assembly’s standing committees....CONTINUE READING>>>

Meranda made the announcement during Monday’s plenary session. The appointed lawmakers and their respective committees include:

  • Hon. Temitope Adewale – Business and Rules Committee
  • Hon. Richard Kasumu – Legislative Compliance Committee
  • Hon. Setonji David – Ethics, Protocol, and Privileges Committee
  • Hon. Surajudeen Tijani – House Services Committee
  • Hon. Stephen Ogundipe – Information, Strategy, and Security Committee

Meanwhile, reports indicate a brewing power struggle within the Assembly. The camp of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is allegedly working behind the scenes to oust Meranda and reclaim leadership.

Sources close to Vanguard suggest that despite previous failed attempts to unseat Meranda since her emergence on January 13, 2025, fresh moves are underway. The plan reportedly involves selecting a proxy Speaker from Ikeja, who would later step down to pave the way for Obasa’s return.

With tensions rising within the Assembly, political observers are keenly watching to see how this unfolding drama will shape the leadership of Lagos State’s legislative arm.
