Kano Govt Accuses Federal Government of Ordering Police Barricade at Emir’s Palace

Speaking on a local radio program, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, expressed shock over the incident, stating, “We woke up to find the entrance to the Emir’s palace sealed off by the police.

This is surprising, especially since Kano remains peaceful. However, it seems a few individuals, with support from Abuja, are intent on disrupting that peace.”

Bichi explained that the Emir had planned to escort the district head of Bichi, Wamban Kano, to a prayer session before returning to the palace.

Despite the peaceful nature of the visit, security forces claimed the barricade was ordered by “higher authorities,” implicating the Federal Government.

“Kano is committed to peace, and we will not allow anyone to destabilize our state,” Bichi declared, affirming that the Emir’s appointment of the district head was final and his plans would proceed.

Meanwhile, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who led the Friday congregational prayer at the Kano Central Mosque, called on residents to remain calm and avoid violence. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the state despite the provocation.
