Kwankwaso Allegedly Making Moves to Join APC – Kano APC Chieftain
A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Musa Illlyasu Kwankwaso, has claimed that his cousin, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is subtly attempting to join the APC....CONTINUE READING>>>
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Illlyasu suggested that Senator Kwankwaso’s political maneuvers are aimed at helping Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf secure a second term in office. He hinted that members of the National Assembly from Kano who were elected under the NNPP banner are also contemplating a shift to the APC.
Illlyasu said, “Kwankwaso is lobbying President Bola Tinubu to allow him to defect to our great party, the APC, to achieve his interest.” He further claimed that Kwankwaso’s ultimate goal for joining the APC is to ensure a smooth ride for his political protégé, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in securing re-election in 2027.
He also expressed concern that this move could be part of a larger strategy by Kwankwaso to maintain influence over Kano’s political landscape. However, Illlyasu urged President Tinubu not to grant Kwankwaso’s defection request, emphasizing that such a move could undermine the APC’s position in Kano.
On the other hand, Illlyasu welcomed the possibility that NNPP members of the National Assembly from Kano might join the APC, viewing this as a positive development. He argued that this would weaken the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement and aid the APC in its efforts to recapture Kano in the 2027 general elections.
