In an interview following the election, where Nejo finished third with 4,138 votes, he openly criticized the political atmosphere, noting that candidates who engaged in vote buying ultimately secured victory. He decried the practice as a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

Nejo recounted his observations at his polling unit, where votes were reportedly purchased for amounts between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000. He emphasized that his decision not to participate in such practices had a significant impact on his results. At his polling unit, Nejo received only two votes and around 40 votes in total.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Nejo expressed pride in staying true to his principles. He firmly stated:

“I don’t care. If they want to vote, they should vote. I wasn’t going to give a kobo to buy votes.”

Nejo’s stand against vote buying highlights his commitment to electoral integrity, even at the cost of his political success.
