“There is no basis for any disagreement between my administration and the governors on matters concerning local government administration,” Tinubu stated. “We share the same goal of empowering local governments to function effectively and meet the needs of the people they serve.”

The president highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring local governments operate with autonomy while fostering accountability and transparency. He stressed that the federal government is working closely with state governors to implement policies that enhance the capacity of local councils to deliver essential services.

“Our focus is on strengthening the foundations of governance at every level,” Tinubu explained. “Local governments play a critical role in addressing the immediate needs of our citizens, and we are determined to make them more functional and efficient.”

Rumors of a rift between the federal government and governors surfaced following Tinubu’s recent push for local government reforms, with some alleging resistance from certain state leaders.
